Fraud is the intentional deception to secure unfair or unlawful gain, or to deprive a victim of a legal right. It has been estimated that over $60 billion a year is lost to health care fraud schemes.

Johns Hopkins Medicine Employer Health Programs (EHP) is dedicated to protect the integrity of the care its members receive.  The mission of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is to identify and stop instances of fraud.  With decades of experience in fraud investigations, members of this unit are uniquely equipped for this role.  We are asking for YOU to join us by taking an active role in the fight against fraud.

Some examples of health care fraud you may encounter and should report are:

  • A Provider billing for services they did not render or for products they did not provide.
  • A Provider billing for products or services that are not medically necessary.
  • A Patient selling or diverting prescription medicine or items provided under the Johns Hopkins Medicine Employer Health Program.
  • A Patient obtaining many prescriptions for the same drug from several doctors during the same time period.
  • Any individual forging or changing prescription forms.
